Saints vs. Panthers Odds
The New Orleans Saints have struggled against bad teams this season and next up is a road trip to Carolina for a game with the Panthers in Week 9.
The Saints are 5-3 on the season and 2-1 on the road while the Panthers are 1-6 on the season and 1-3 at home. The under is 7-0 in the last seven meetings between these two teams in Carolina and 6-1 in the last seven meetings overall. The Saints are 6-2 ATS in the last eight meetings in Carolina, while the road team is 17-4 ATS in the last 21 meetings.
Oddsmakers from online sportsbook Sportsbook.com have made New Orleans a 6.5-point favorite at home against the Panthers. The over/under has been set at 41.
Opening odds had The Saints favored by 7 and the line hasn’t changed much aside from dropping to 6.5. The Over/under opened at 44 but took a quick dip down to 41.5 and was as low as 40.5 before settling in at 41.
The Saints are coming off a 20-10 win over Pittsburgh last weekend but the three losses this season have come to teams with two losses or less at the time, including losses to Arizona and Cleveland. The Saints offense has been streaky and it was discovered this week that Drew Brees has a minor knee injury as well. Brees has thrown for 2,334 yards and 16 touchdowns, but also has 11 interceptions. Chris Ivory is the leading rusher with just 332 yards. Jonathan Vilma is leading the New Orleans defense with 50 tackles and two sacks.
The Panthers are coming off a 20-10 loss at St. Louis last week. The Panthers have scored 18 points or less in all losses this year and given up a minimum of 20 points in all but one game this year. Matt Moore has been inconsistent this season, throwing for 844 yards and five touchdowns along with 10 interceptions while DeAngelo Williams has just 361 rushing yards and one score. Steve Smith has just 26 receptions for 309 yards and two touchdowns.
Running backs Reggie Busch and Pierre Thomas are again expected not to play on Sunday for the Saints as both have knee injuries while Carolina running back DeAngelo Williams is doubtful with a foot injury.
Just under 17,000 public bets have been placed on this game with the Saints getting 83% of the wagers at -6.5 against the Panthers.
