(The Spread) – Rookie quarterbacks clash in Carolina this Sunday when the Panthers host the Vikings at 1:00PM ET.
MINNESOTA: The Vikings had to pleased with Christian Ponder’s first career start last Sunday against the Packers. While Charles Woodson picked him off twice in the third quarter, the rookie quarterback was poised in the fourth and nearly led the Vikings to an improbable comeback. Ponder will now face his first road test of his career this weekend in Carolina. CAROLINA: Cam Newton and the Panthers improved to 2-5 on the year with a 33-20 victory over Washington last Sunday. Carolina also covered as a 1.5-point favorite, which gives the Panthers a 5-2 record against the spread this year. Newton has thrown for 2,103 yards in his first seven games to go along with his seven total touchdowns. Steve Smith has seen a resurgence with Newton under center, as the veteran wideout has totaled 818 receiving yards on the year.
ODDS: Oddsmakers have installed the host Panthers as 3.5-point favorites over the Vikings this Sunday while the over/under total is currently sitting at 47.5 points. Minnesota is 0-3 on the road this season while Carolina is 2-2 at home.
