Public Betting Trends
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetNow.eu, the Redskins are 1-point favorites to beat the Giants. The total, meanwhile, sits at 42.5 points. As of this writing, 64% of the public betting tickets are on the Redskins to cover the point spread.
Washington Redskins
Alex Smith completed 14-of-25 passes for 178 yards and one touchdown in Washington’s Week 7 win over the Cowboys. In vintage Smith fashion, his only score on the day came on a 23-yard screen pass to change-of-pace back Kapri Bibbs. No receiver topped 43 yards for Washington. Dallas’ secondary admittedly presents a tough matchup, but it is the second straight week Smith’s failed to exceed 175 passing yards. Given the club’s run-first grind-it-out style of play, Smith should only be used in terrific matchups on paper — like the one the Redskins face in Week 8 against the Giants.
New York Giants
Eli Manning completed 27-of-38 passes for 399 yards and one touchdown in the Giants’ Week 7 loss to the Falcons. Manning had a huge second half, but the offense really struggled in the red zone. Manning didn’t throw his touchdown until he heaved a prayer for a one-yard score to Odell Beckham with five seconds left on the clock after Manning failed to score on consecutive QB sneaks from the one-yard line. Earlier in the game, he missed OBJ on an open nine-yard touchdown before the Giants had to settle for a field goal. Manning’s 399 yards mark a season-best, but this offense is still broken. Manning won’t be a recommended play next week against the Redskins.
NFL Betting Trends
Washington
The over is 9-2 in the Redskins’ last 11 games after allowing less than 90 yards rushing in their previous game.
New York
The under is 11-4 in the Giants’ last 15 home games.
Prediction
The under is 12-3 in the last 15 meetings between these two teams in East Rutherford and is 4-1 in the last five meetings overall. The Giants struggled offensively again in Atlanta on Monday night despite the fact that every opponent had been lighting up the Falcons this season. Their offensive line is horrendous, which has impacted Eli Manning, who has struggled in his own right to get the ball to the team’s weapons. That said, New York also flex its muscles at times defensively, sacking Matt Ryan a handful of times. If the Giants’ pass rush is also on point Sunday, I like this game to fall under.
