Cards, Ravens deal with assorted maladies
With Ben Roethlisberger already down for the count, what other stars join the Pittsburgh quarterback as Week 7 casualties? Here’s a guide in advance of those early kickoffs.
While we’ve known for days that Mike Tomlin would not have his main man under center for the Steelers’ joust vs. New England, Joe Flacco’s right shoulder situation has been more of a slow burn. Baltimore’s veteran signal-caller sat out both Wednesday and Thursday practices. Considering the fact that he’s missed only one game during a lengthy career, though, expect him to suit up against the Jets.
In that same matchup, New York may be operating without its anchor along the offensive line. Pro Bowl center Nick Mangold’s knee ailment continues to prove vexing. If he’s unable to dress, Geno Smith’s first start in two years could careen out of control in a hurry. Todd Bowles is still scrambling to fill holes on offense as it is, having lost ultra-reliable wideout Eric Decker to a season-ending injury a week ago.
Staying at receiver, the Patriots’ Julian Edelman (foot) can’t seem to shake that questionable tag. Nonetheless, Tom Brady’s favorite underneath target appears likely to compete against Pittsburgh. The Cardinals’ John Brown (hamstring) finds himself in a considerably more dicey position. Carson Palmer’s premier vertical threat is doubtful to take on Seattle’s secondary tonight.
Palmer himself is dealing with a hamstring quandary, too. He’s also shaking off a concussion that kept him out of Week 5. In the grand scheme of things, though, we’d be shocked to see him limited vs. the Seahawks.
