Titans at Patriots Pick
The Tennessee Titans will be searching for their first win of the 2009 season when they travel to Foxboro this Sunday to take on the New England Patriots at 4:15PM ET.
The Titans dropped to 0-5 on the season with their 31-9 loss to the Colts in Week 5. Kerry Collins threw for 164 yards with an interception, while Chris Johnson was held to only 34 rushing yards on nine carries. Tennessee failed to cover as 3-point underdogs.
The Patriots were also defeated last week, 20-17 in Denver. Tom Brady threw for 215 yards and two touchdowns while Wes Welker hauled in eight passes for 86 yards and a touchdown. But New England was held scoreless in the second half and failed to cover as 3-point road favorites.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SPORTSBETTING.com has made the Patriots 9.5-point favorites over the Titans on Sunday. The over/under total for this game has been set at 43 points.
There are three things that everyone can count on in this world: Death, taxes and the Patriots rebounding after a loss. Bill Belichick and company always seem to rebound well from defeats, so why should Sunday be any different?
The Titans are a bad football team, plain and simple. And while we don’t like giving up 9.5 points with a struggling New England team, the Patriots could take out their frustrations this weekend – especially Tom Brady.
Tennessee’s pass defense has been an issue all year and the Patriots aren’t afraid to throw the ball on any down. While they still need to rely on the running game to keep their offense balanced, the Pats will likely put the ball in the air plenty of times this Sunday and take advantage of the Titans’ biggest weakness.
Another issue the Titans have had is moving the chains on offense with Collins under center. There has been debate for the last two weeks whether or not Jeff Fisher should/will make a switch to Vince Young and if Collins continues to struggle, that change may come this weekend.
Either way, the Pats should have a field day at Foxboro against a Titans team that is already showing signs of throwing in the towel.
