Justin Herbert has been named the Chargers’ starting quarterback for the rest of the season. Herbert forced head coach Anthony Lynn’s hand with excellent play over the past three weeks, posting a 72 percent completion rate, throwing five touchdowns to three interceptions, and going over 290 passing yards in each start. Lynn had hesitated to commit to the rookie after the Chargers’ staff punctured Tyrod Taylor’s lung with an injection and forced him to miss LA’s Week 2 matchup against the Chiefs. Fantasy wise, Herbert has vaulted Keenan Allen into fringe WR1 territory, as Allen has a whopping 40 percent target share since Herbert took over. Hunter Henry has also seen a boost, getting nearly 18 percent of the team’s targets with Herbert under center. Herbert is a top-end Week 5 streamer against the Saints.
New Orleans Saints DFS Spin
Drew Brees completed 19-of-25 passes for 246 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception in the Saints’ 35-29, Week 4 win over the Lions. The 25 attempts were a season low, but Brees was surgical in this one and kept challenging the Lions downfield, even without Michael Thomas and Jared Cook in the lineup due to injuries. His 9.6 yards per attempt is a new season best, and Brees has multiple touchdown throws in 3-of-4 games. After going down 14-0 thanks in part to a Brees interception that was tipped at the line of scrimmage, the Saints fired off 35 straight points. Both of Brees’ touchdown throws went to Tre’Quan Smith, who has taken over the Thomas role the last three weeks. Thomas may be back as soon as next week against the Chargers where Brees will be a borderline QB1/2.
Chargers vs. Saints Betting Prediction
The Saints have failed to cover in five of their last seven home games, are just 2-6 against the number in their last eight appearances on Monday Night Football and have failed to cover in 10 of their last 14 games when listed as a home favorite. The Chargers, meanwhile, are 33-15-4 against the spread in their last 52 games as a road underdog, are 9-3-2 ATS in their last 14 games as an underdog of any kind and are 3-1-1 at the betting window in their last five games overall.
