Panthers vs. Falcons Odds
(The Spread) – Can the Falcons shake out of their early-season funk when they host the Panthers at 1:00PM ET on Sunday?
The Falcons have lost three of their first five games as their offense continues to sputter. Despite adding dynamic playmaker Julio Jones (who may miss Sunday because of a hamstring injury) via the draft in April, Atlanta’s offense has yet to get off the ground. The offensive line play has been horrid and offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey has been unwilling to change his conservative approach. The Falcons haven’t had much success running the ball with Michael Turner either.
Meanwhile, the Panthers have a worse record (1-4) than the Falcons but there’s certainly more optimism in Carolina than Atlanta these days. That’s because Cam Newton has given the Panthers a shot to win in every game so far as Carolina has covered in four of its five games on the year with one push. Newton continues to torch defenses through the air and he may have another huge day against a suspect Atlanta secondary.

The Falcons opened as 5.5-point favorites but the line is already down to 4 at most books. The over/under total for this game is currently sitting at 50.5 points as oddsmakers expect this to be a high-scoring affair. As previously mentioned, the Panthers are 4-0-1 against the spread this season while the Falcons are just 1-4.
According to latest NFL trends, the over is 3-0-1 in the last four meetings between these two teams in Atlanta and 3-0-2 in the last five meetings overall. The favorite is 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings while the home team is 5-1 ATS in the last six games between these two teams. The Panthers are also 3-10-2 ATS in their last 15 road games against the Falcons and 1-4 ATS in the last five meetings with Atlanta.
