Saints vs. Cardinals Free Pick
The banged up Saints head into Arizona this week to take on a Cardinals team that will start an undrafted rookie at quarterback in Max Hall. Read on to check out our free pick for this Week 5 matchup.
Before we get to our free pick, let’s take a look at the current odds.
Oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com have made the Saints a 7-point favorite over the Cardinals in Week 5. The over/under total for this game is currently 44 points.
The Saints barely squeaked by the winless Panthers at home last week, but the victory helped them improve to 3-1 on the year. That said, they’re 1-3 against the spread this season and 0-1 ATS in their only road game (a last-second win over the 49ers on Monday Night Football in Week 2).
The Cardinals are 2-2 on the year, but 1-3 against the spread. They failed to cover in their only home game of the year, a game they won but would have lost had Oakland’s Sebastian Janikowski hit a 32-yard field goal with only seconds remaining on the clock.
The Free Pick:
The Saints have big-time injury concerns heading into this game, which makes it hard to pick them and lay the points when they’re on the road. They’re just 2-8 against the spread in their last 10 games as a favorite and they’ll be without both of their top running backs in Reggie Bush and Pierre Thomas.
It’s always dangerous to back a rookie quarterback in his first start, but can it get any worse than Derek Anderson? The Cards are 4-0 against the number in their last four games as a home underdog and 7-1 against the spread in their last eight games in October. I think Hall plays better than expected and they keep things close at home. My pick is Arizona plus the points over New Orleans in Week 5.
