Sunday Night Football Odds
The San Francisco 49ers need a win and the Philadelphia Eagles need something positive to happen as the two meet in Sunday Night Football.
After being a preseason favorite to win the NFC West the 49ers are off to an 0-4 start while the Eagles are 2-2 after losing Michael Vick to a rib injury last weekend. This game takes place Sunday night at 8:20PM ET from San Francisco.
Oddsmakers from online sportsbook Sportsbook.com have made the 49ers a 3-point favorite at home against the Eagles. The over/under has been set at 38.5
The opening line had the 49ers with a 3.5-point spread over the Eagles. The line was steady there all week before dropping to 3 points. The over/under started at 39 and was at 38 most of the week before adding the hook at 38.5.
The 49ers are 0-4 with two losses coming by three points or less. The big issue this year has been on offense, where the team has been inconsistent and unreliable. The team is averaging just 13 points and 298 yards of offense per game. They are among the worst this season in rushing offense, averaging just 78.6 yards per game. Alex Smith has thrown for 920 yards and three touchdowns with seven interceptions on the season while Frank Gore has 270 rushing yards with one score. On defense, the 49ers are giving up 25.8 points and 335.8 yards per game. Patrick Willis is lead the defense with 34 tackles and a sack.
The Eagles are 2-2 this season but are 2-0 with Vick as a starter. He is out indefinitely with a rib injury, forcing Kevin Kolb back into the mix. The Eagles have lost both games where Kolb has played. Kolb has thrown for 225 yards and one touchdown with one interception. He is completing 60 percent of his passes. The Eagles have had a strong rushing attack, but Vick was a big part of that. LeSean McCoy has rushed for 273 yards and four touchdowns and caught 23 passes for 172 yards, but he is questionable for the game with an injury. On defense, the Eagles are giving up 19.8 points and 306.8 yards per game. The team has 13 sacks through four games. Trent Cole has 22 tackles and three sacks to lead the defense while Nate Allen has three interceptions.
Trends favor Philadelphia in this game as they are 4-0 against the spread in their last four meetings with San Francisco and 11-4 ATS in their last 15 as a road underdog. The 49ers are 0-5-1 ATS in their last six after covering in the previous game.
On the injury front, McCoy is nursing sore ribs which makes him questionable while center Nick Cole is questionable with a knee injury and cornerback Asante Samuel is out with a concussion for the Eagles. The 49ers expect Ted Ginn Jr. to play despite a knee injury but linebacker Manny Lawson is questionable with a knee injury.
Over 55,500 bets have been placed on this Sunday night game and the 49ers are receiving 61% of the bets -3 against the Eagles.
