Jacksonville Jaguars Fantasy Spin
Jalen Ramsey (back) has been ruled out for Week 5. Ramsey will meet with a back specialist this weekend. His absence is great news for D.J. Moore and Curtis Samuel alike. Meanwhile, Tre Herndon will again draw the start. Herndon was roasted continuously by the Broncos in Week 4, as the 2018 undrafted free agent allowed 6-of-9 targets into his coverage to be caught for 119 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Samuel is one of just seven WRs this season with at least 200 more air yards than receiving yards. An explosion is coming.
Carolina Panthers Fantasy Spin
Panthers coach Ron Rivera said Kyle Allen will start against the Jaguars in Week 5. This was fully expected as Cam Newton remains without a hard timeline to return. Allen’s three strip-sacks were an issue in Carolina’s win over the Texans Sunday, but his ability to create on the fly is still the Panthers’ best option under center until Newton comes back in ’19 (which isn’t guaranteed). At this point Allen should be looked to as Carolina’s presumed starter until further notice.
NFL Betting Trends
Jacksonville
The Jaguars are 1-4 against the spread in their last five games following a win.
Carolina
The Panthers are 1-4 against the number in their last five home games.
Prediction
Far be it for me to suggest that “Minshew Magic” will struggle, but the Panthers rank first in net yards per pass attempt on defense, first in passing yards per game, first in yards per completion, first in QB hits, first in sack rate and third in explosive pass rate. Meanwhile, Allen struggled more last Sunday than the previous week in Arizona, which was expected. That said, I like him to rebound today when he faces a Jacksonville defense that has allowed 300-plus yard games to Marcus Mariota and Joe Flacco the past two weeks.
