Chargers vs. Steelers
The Pittsburgh Steelers will try to avoid losing their third straight game when they host the San Diego Chargers on Sunday night at 8:20PM ET.
The Chargers defeated the Dolphins 23-13 last week as 7-point favorites. Philip Rivers threw for 303 yards and had a touchdown run in the win for San Diego, while Vincent Jackson caught five passes for 120 yards.
The Steelers dropped to 1-2 on the season with a 23-20 loss to the Bengals in Cincinnati as 3.5-point favorites. Ben Roethlisberger threw for 276 yards with a touchdown and an interception in the loss, while Willie Parker rushed for 93 yards on 25 carries and a TD reception.
Oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com have made the Steelers 7-point favorites over the Chargers on Sunday night. The over/under total for this matchup has been set at 43.
The Steelers have failed to cover this season, so it’s a little surprising that oddsmakers would make them 7-point favorites. Without a consistent running game at their disposal, Pittsburgh is going to continue to struggle putting teams away in the fourth quarter.
The Steelers will once again be without Troy Polamalu, so we expect San Diego to attack the middle of the field with Antonio Gates and take advantage of a beat up Pittsburgh secondary.
The running games for both of these teams will continue to struggle, so this could be a potential shootout to some degree. We like San Diego to keep things close, just as they did last year when it played in Pittsburgh. We just don’t trust that this will be the first time the Steelers will cover this season.
Our NFL Week 4 Free Pick for this matchup is: SAN DIEGO CHARGERS +7 and OVER 43.
