Hilton Contest

God spelled backwards is dog.

Las Vegas Hilton SuperContestants reversed the word as well as a trend and predicted a dog day afternoon on this weekend's Sabbath. Players for the first time in the 2006 NFL season sided with more underdogs than favorites -- 8-6 -- in their Week 4 consensus. The best bet, based on the difference of nods competing teams received, was Jacksonville. The Jaguars, who are laying 2 1/2 points to Washington on the road, were preferred 133-68.  Baltimore, which is getting 2 points at home from San Diego, was the top dog play and also received support from the most players.  The SuperContest's 416 entrants chose the Ravens 137-89. Closest calls of the week were Buffalo, 77-74 over Minnesota, and Atlanta, 55-50 over Arizona.

Players picked 3 1/2-point home favorite Chicago over defending NFC champion Seattle, 97-78, on Sunday night and 11-point road underdog Green Bay, 61-38, over Philadelphia on Monday night.

Others choices were the New York Jets over Indianapolis, 97-52; Tennessee, 69-29 over Dallas; Kansas City, 88-88-37 over San Francisco; New Orleans, 112-75 over Carolina; Houston, 59-43 over Miami; St. Louis, 72-50 over Detroit; New England, 108-102 over Cincinnati; and Oakland, 77-37 over Cleveland.

The consensus is 23-21-1 through three weeks, not including a Week 2 Jacksonville-Pittsburgh game in which opinions were evenly split.

Best bets are 2-1.

SuperContestants select five pro games weekly, a total of 85 picks.

They earn one point for a win and a half-point for a push.

Charlie Martini leads the SuperContest with 11 1/2 points and has a razor-thin half-game edge over eight other players.
