CAR-DAL Free Pick

The Monday night matchup features two teams looking to rebound off Week 2 losses as the Dallas Cowboys host the Carolina Panthers.

Bet NFL Week 3

The Panthers dropped to 0-2 on the season after losing to the Falcons 28-20 as a 5.5-point underdog. Jake Delhomme threw a touchdown pass and DeAngelo Williams rushed for 79 yards and a score, but Carolina couldn’t rally late to win in Atlanta.

The Cowboys dropped their home opener to the Giants last Sunday night in a 33-31 defeat. Tony Romo threw for 127 yards and a touchdown, but was also intercepted three times as Dallas failed to cover the spread as a 3-point favorite. Marion Barber rushed for 124 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries in the loss.

Oddsmakers from online sports book BetOnline have made the Cowboys 9-point favorites over the Panthers on Monday night. The over/under total for this game has been set at 47.5.

Even though the Cowboys have an explosive offense, they’re not that good right now to be 9-point favorites over anyone – not even the 0-2 Panthers. Carolina should keep things close, especially if Barber (who is injured and doubtful to play) can’t go for Dallas.

The key for Carolina is for Delhomme not to turn the ball over. He threw four interceptions in Week 1, but rebounded and played well last week in Atlanta before being picked off in the fourth quarter.

The Cowboys defense hasn’t looked good in two weeks now and Carolina could gain an edge if they keep the ball on the ground. And with the way Romo has been turning the ball over, the Panthers look like a sound bet.

We also recommend going with the over in this matchup as the total has gone over in four of Dallas’s last five games when playing Carolina.

Our NFL Week 3 Free Pick for this matchup is: CAROLINA PANTHERS +9 and UNDER 37.5.
