DEN-OAK Free Pick
AFC West Division rivals will square off at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum on Sunday when the Oakland Raiders host the Denver Broncos at 4:15PM ET.
The Broncos improved to 2-0 last week after cruising to a 27-6 win over the Browns. Correll Buckhalter rushed for 76 yards and a touchdown on nine carries for a Denver team that easily covered the 3-point spread. Kyle Orton also threw for 263 yards and a touchdown in the victory.
Oakland earned its first win of the year by knocking off Kansas City 13-10 to cover the 1.5-point spread as underdogs. JaMarcuss Russell only threw for 100 yards, but the Raiders will gladly take the win.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com have made the Broncos 1.5-point favorites over the Raiders in this matchup. The over/under total has been established at 36.
Although their victory in Week 1 can be considered a fluke, there’s nothing fluke about the way Denver’s defense has played in the first two weeks. They’ve limited opponents to only 13 points in two games and while it helped playing Cleveland last week, the bottom line is that the Broncos defense is playing quite well to start the year.
They’ll face an Oakland team that is improving, but still has a lot of work to do in order to be a complete football team. Russell continues to overthrow receivers, while the running game can be inconsistent at times. It’s been the Raiders defense that looks must improved, especially with the addition of defensive end Richard Seymour.
We don’t think the Broncos are a great bet here, but we’ll gladly lay the 1.5 points with the way their defense has been playing. As long as Orton can limit the mistakes and Denver running game can keep being effective, the Broncos should leave Oakland with a win on Sunday.
Although the total has been set low at 36 points, we still suggest taking the under. Neither of these teams can score quickly and the under has covere din 10 of Oakland’s last 15 games when playing Denver.
