Hawks-49ers Free Pick
NFC West rivals who had impressive wins in Week 1 will go to battle at Candlestick Park this Sunday when the San Francisco 49ers host the Seattle Seahawks at 4:05PM ET.
The Seahawks thumped the Rams 28-0 in their home opener last week as Matt Hasselbeck threw for 279 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions. Tight end John Carlson caught six passes for 95 yards and two touchdowns in the win, as Seattle easily covered the 7-point spread as the favorite.
The 49ers were impressive in their 20-16 win over the defending NFC Champion Cardinals in Arizona last Sunday. Quarterback Shaun Hill threw for 209 yards and found running back Frank Gore for the go-ahead touchdown with just over seven minutes remaining in the game. San Fran covered the 4.5-point spread as road underdogs.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SPORTSBETTING.com have made the 49ers 1-point home favorites over the Seahawks on Sunday. The over/under total has been established at 39.5.
In their last meeting, the Seahawks soundly beat the 49ers 34-13 in Seattle on October 26 of last year, but the Niners got the best of the Hawks 33-30 in San Francisco on September 14.
The Seahawks are 7-3 against the spread when playing within the division over the past 10 games. Seattle is definitely a different team with Hasselbeck healthy and under center, which he is after missing virtually all of last season due to a back injury. If the Seahawks could ever get the running game working consistently, they would be a small Super Bowl contender now that the defense is playing well again.
While San Fran is coming off an inspiring road win in Arizona, the Niners proved last year that even under head coach Mike Singletary that they’re an inconsistent bunch. That’s why we like Seattle in this matchup, even though it’s enticing to take the home team and not have to give up too many points.
Despite the win, the 49ers didn’t move the ball particularly on the ground last week, which favors our choice of Seattle this Sunday. The Seahawks could give Hill some issues with their attacking style of defense and as long as they contain Gore, they should come away with a cover.
The total has gone over in six of San Fran’s last nine games when playing Seattle, so we suggest taking the over in this game, along with the Seahawks +1.
