Patriots-Jets Free Pick
The trash talking has already started between the New England Patriots and the New York Jets, who will meet in East Rutherford, New Jersey this Sunday at 1:00PM ET.
Jets’ head coach Rex Ryan got the smack talk going this summer when he said that he wouldn’t be intimidated by Patriots’ coach Bill Belichick. Then New York safety Kerry Rhodes indicated that he and his teammates were going to try and embarrass the Patriots.
Usually, the Pats don’t take kindly to opposing players and coaches running their mouths. So this Sunday’s battle between these two AFC East teams is going to be interesting to say the least.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SPORTSBETTING.com has made the Patriots 4-point road favorites over the Jets. The over/under total for this matchup has been established at 46.
The last time these two teams met, the Jets edged the Pats 34-31 in New England on November 13 of last year. But New England got the best of the Jets in New York on September 13 in a 19-10 victory.
The key to this game will be whether or not the Jets can slow down Tom Brady and New England’s high-powered passing attack. Considering that the Jets have one of he better young defensive backfields in the league, we think that New York will at least be able to slow Brady, Randy Moss and Wes Welker.
The Jets need to generate a pass rush, though. Last week in Houston, Ryan’s defense harassed Matt Schaub and the Texans. So if they can get after Brady, the Patriots could have a tough time winning this game without a running game.
The Patriots didn’t look like the same team defensively last Monday as they have been under Belichick over the past decade. One would think that Belichick would make mincemeat out of a rookie quarterback like Mark Sanchez. But Belichick won’t have middle linebacker Jerod Mayo (knee injury) at his disposal this Sunday and the Pats might have trouble stopping a Jets running game that rushed for 190 yards last weekend at Houston.
We like taking the home team getting points in this matchup and recommend taking the under since the total has fallen under in four of the Jets’ last five games.
