Giants at Colts Pick
The Sunday Night Football game this week should turn out to be a great one, as the Manning Brothers will square off in Indianapolis as the Colts take on the New York Giants.
Oddsmakers from online sports book BroburySports.com have made the Colts 5-point favorites for Sunday night against the Giants. The over/under total for this game has been set at 48.5 points.
The Giants Win If:
Well, the game plan on offense should be pretty simple right? After Arian Foster rushed for over 230 yards in Houston’s win over Indy last Sunday, the G-Men clearly needed to keep it on the ground. They have two capable backs in Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs, but the key is not abandoning the run if Indy loads the box early. Getting those safeties to commit to the run should be New York’s focal point, because then Eli Manning can attack the Giants’ defense over the top. Defensively, the Giants did a great job last week in forcing five turnovers in a win over the Panthers. While they probably won’t get Peyton Manning to turn the ball over that much, forcing a turnover or two will serve the Giants well in their bid to go 2-0 on the young season.
The Colts Win If:
Well, the game plan on defense should be pretty simple right? Foster completely took over the game last week in Houston and the Colts’ run defense should be embarrassed after their performance. Stopping Bradshaw and Jacobs should be priority No. 1, although they still need to honor the pass because Eli can certainly beat them over the top. Of course, not all of the Colts’ problems last week were on the defensive side of the ball. They had several miscues on offense, including penalties and dropped passes. They just need an overall better effort this weekend.
Prediction:
Until the Colts can prove that they can stop the run, then give me the points. Even though they’re a balanced offense, the G-Men want to run the ball and this is the perfect time for them to put the onus on the ground game. Bradshaw was putrid last week, but he should have more running lanes this weekend against a soft Indy interior. Peyton probably won’t allow his team to lose their home opener (especially to his brother), but if the point spread stays where it is and you can get 5 points with the Giants, take ‘em.
