Titans vs. Lions Pick
After putting up the most points in the NFL in Week 1, can the Detroit Lions do something similar this week when they host the Tennessee Titans on Sunday at 1PM ET?
According to the oddsmakers at BetDSI, the Lions are a big favorite at home on Sunday, as they are getting odds of -6 points against the Titans. The over/under total for the contest is listed at 47.5 points. These two haven’t met since 2012, but the Titans have won the last four meetings, covering the spread in the last three. These two have hit the over in five of their last seven meetings.
The Lions were expected to have a high-scoring game in Week 1 against the Colts, but they went even beyond that in a 39-35 win. The game produced the most points for Week 1 and featured just under 900 yards of total offense. Detroit finished with 448 while giving up 450 to the Colts. Matthew Stafford had arguably the best game of his career, going 31 of 39 passing for 340 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions. He spread the ball out to eight different receivers and also had a solid run game, producing 116 yards on 24 carries. The defense is a concern though, as it was eaten up by Andrew Luck and the Colts for 385 yards.
The Titans opened the season against the Vikings at home last week and lost 25-16. The Titans have now pushed or hit the over in seven of their last eight games. Tennessee wasn’t too bad on defense against a Minnesota offense with Shaun Hill at QB, but the Titans had three turnovers in the loss, including one for a touchdown. The offense really struggled to run the ball against Minnesota’s big front seven. Tennessee had only 64 rushing yards on 22 carries despite having backs like DeMarco Murray and Derrick Henry. Marcus Mariota did what he could, throwing for 271 yards and two scores, but he averaged just 6.6 yards per pass attempt. One highlight for Tennessee was being able to hold Adrian Peterson to just 31 rushing yards on 19 carries.

The Lions have reasons to be excited, but don’t look for them to do what they did last week against Tennessee. The Titans have a much better defense and the Colts were severely banged up in the secondary. Still, the Lions should be able to move the ball somewhat consistently. The Titans should also see improvement on offense against this Detroit defense, especially in the run game. Expect this game to be a competitive battle with plenty of highlights.
