DAL-TB Free Pick

Tampa, FL - The T.O.-less Dallas Cowboys will travel to Raymond James Stadium this Sunday and take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, led by a new head coach and a new quarterback.

Bet Cowboys at Bucs

The Cowboys took the addition by subtraction mindset when they decided to release wide receiver Terrell Owens. They’re hoping now that T.O. (and his antics) is terrorizing another locker room that quarterback Tony Romo can take charge of this Dallas team and lead them back to the playoffs.

Conversely, the Bucs are starting over after firing GM Bruce Allen and head coach Jon Gruden. Raheem Morris takes over as the new head coach and Byron Leftwich replaces Jeff Garcia at quarterback.

Oddsmakers from online sports book BetOnline have made the Bucs 4.5-point home underdogs in their matchup with the Cowboys. The over/under total for this game has been established at 39.

Normally we advice taking home underdogs, but Tampa is in trouble. Leftwich is one of the more inconsistent quarterbacks in the NFL and will no doubt supply at least one turnover going up against a tough Dallas defense. And while the Bucs still have plenty of playmakers on the defensive side of the ball, Romo should find no trouble moving the chains as Tampa will be without safety Tanard Jackson, who has been suspended four games.

This game will come down to the Bucs not being able to make enough plays offensively. Cadillac Williams looked good in preseason, but Leftwich is eventually going to have to make plays to beat a good Dallas team and it’s doubtful he can, especially late in the game. We recommend taking the Cowboys –4.5 on the road this week.

We also suggest taking the over since the total has gone over in four of the Cowboys’ last six games on the road.

Our NFL Week 1 Free Picks for this matchup are: NEW ORLEANS -14 and UNDER 49.
