Saints vs. Panthers Week 2 Odds
CHARLOTTE, NC (The Spread) – Two NFC South teams looking to bounce back from Week 1 losses will meet in Carolina on Sunday when the Panthers host the Saints at 1:00PM ET.
NEW ORLEANS: The Saints were victims of one of the biggest surprises in Week 1 when they were upset by the Redskins 40-32 as an 8-point home favorite. Drew Brees threw for 339 yards but he was constantly harassed by Washington’s pass rush and Pierre Thomas was New Orleans’ leading rushing with just 17 yards. The Saints’ defense was lit up by rookie Robert Griffin III, who threw for 320 yards, including 109 to Pierre Garcon. The 72 combined points sailed over the total of 50.
CAROLINA: The Panthers were also victims of an upset, as they lost 16-10 on the road as a 3-point favorite to the Buccaneers. Cam Newton threw for 303 yards but Carolina’s vaunted running game was dismal and couldn’t get going all day. Steve Smith did rack up 106 yards but turnovers killed the Panthers’ momentum throughout the day. The combined 26 points fell under the posted total of 45.5.
ODDS: The Saints opened as 5-point favorites over the Panthers but the spread has dropped dramatically since then. The Panthers are now just 1-point underdogs despite 87% of the betting public favors New Orleans. The total for this game is 51.
TRENDS: The under is 8-1 in the last nine meetings between these two teams in Carolina and 11-4 in the last 15 meetings overall. The Saints are 7-3 against the spread in their last 10 games in Carolina but 2-6 ATS in their last eight games against the Panthers overall. The road team, meanwhile, is 17-4 ATS in the last 21 meetings between these two teams.
