Lions vs. Panthers Odds
CHARLOTTE, NC (The Spread) – The Carolina Panthers will have Cam Newton make his season debut this Sunday when they host the Detroit Lions at 1PM ET on FOX.

Carolina picked up a 20-14 win at Tampa Bay without Newton playing, as it went in as a 5.5-point underdog. Carolina has won four of its last five against the Lions, but Detroit has covered in five of six career meetings.

According to oddsmakers from Bovada.lv, Carolina is the slight favorite at home, as the Panthers have odds of -2.5 points against the Lions. The over/under total for the game has been set at 43.5 points (View Matchup). The opening odds for this game had Carolina favored by 2.5 points and hasn’t changed since. The over/under total also hasn’t changed since opening at 43.5 points.
The Panthers won an ugly game without Newton on Sunday, as he was nursing a rib injury. Carolina relied on its defense to win, as it held Tampa Bay to just 264 yards of offense while picking up three turnovers and three sacks. The Panthers posted 334 yards on their own. Derek Anderson started at quarterback and went 24 of 34 passing for 230 yards with two touchdowns while DeAngelo Williams rushed for 72 yards. Rookie receiver Kelvin Benjamin caught six passes for 92 yards and a touchdown.
Detroit looked solid on Monday night, as the team finished with 417 yards of offense while holding the Giants to just 197 yards, including 53 rushing yards. The Lions also created two turnovers and had two sacks. Matthew Stafford was 22 of 32 passing for 346 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing for one. Calvin Johnson was his usual self, catching seven passes for 164 yards and two touchdowns. The defense was led by DeAndre Levy, who had 10 tackles with two tackles for loss and an interception.
In terms of Injuries, Carolina tight end Edmund Kugbila is out with a toe injury. Detroit lost tackle Corey Hilliard for the season with a foot injury and safety James Ihedigbo is questionable with a knee injury. Reggie Bush is also listed as questionable for a kidney issue.
