NFL Week 1 Line Movement & Odds
Week 1 of the NFL season kicks off on Thursday, September 10 with a rematch of the Divisional Round playoff matchup between the Texans and Chiefs. Which way is the line moving for that matchup and other Week 1 tilts?
Texans at Chiefs
The Chiefs opened anywhere between 7.5 and 8.5 for their matchup with the Texans, but the defending Super Bowl champs are now a 9.5-point favorite across most sportsbooks. As for the total, it hit the board at 56.5 but has dropped all the way down to 54. The road team is 9-3 against the spread in the last 12 meetings between these two teams, although eh Chiefs covered as a home favorite in their come-from-behind win versus the Texans in the playoffs last year.
Packers at Vikings
The Vikings opened as 3.5-point home favorites versus their NFC North counterparts for Sunday’s Week 1 matchup, but the Packers are now just a 2.5-point underdog. The total has also seen movement here, opening at 47 before dropping to 46. The under is 5-1 in the last six meetings between these two teams and is a perfect 6-0 in the last six meetings in Minnesota.
Dolphins at Patriots
Despite not having Tom Brady under center, the new-look Patriots are still favored over their AFC East rivals the Dolphins next Sunday. That said, the spread for this matchup did drop in favor of Miami, moving from New England -6.5 down to -6. The total has also dropped slightly, falling from 43.5 down to 43. The Dolphins are just 1-7 against the spread in their last eight trips to Foxborough, although they did pull off one of the bigger upsets a year ago in New England when Ryan Fitzpatrick led Miami on a last-minute, game-winning touchdown drive in Week 17.
Bucs at Saints
Speaking of Brady, his new team will hit the road in Week 1 in a matchup of NFC South rivals. The Saints opened as 5.5-point home favorites but the number has dropped a full two points down to 3.5. It’ll be interesting to see what happens with Alvin Kamara’s situation, as the running back has been in the news lately for potentially holding out/being traded. It would appear, however, that Kamara will be in uniform when the Saints host the Bucs. The total for this game is sitting at 49.5.
Cowboys at Rams
The first Sunday Night Football game of the season will take place in L.A. when the Rams host the Cowboy at 8:20 p.m. ET. After opening as a 2.5-point home dog, the Rams are now a 2-point dog in their season-opener, while the total opened at 50 and has climbed to 51.5.
Monday Night Football
As has been the case over the last few seasons, there will be two Monday Night Football games in Week 1. The Steelers opened as a 3-point road favorite versus the Giants but are now -4, while the Broncos are a 1.5-point home favorite to beat the Titans, who made an impressive playoff run a year ago before falling to the eventual Super Bowl-winning Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game.
