NFL Week 1 Odds Report
Which teams are the biggest favorites and underdogs for Week 1 of the NFL season? What have been the biggest line moves? Here is a betting snapshot for the first full weekend in the NFL.
Biggest Point Spread
There are two games on Sunday’s schedule with 9.5-point spreads. The first is at 1:00 p.m. ET in Philly where the Eagles host the underdog Redskins. The second is at 4:05 p.m. ET on Sunday when the Bengals travel to Seattle to take on the Seahawks. Unless these spreads move between now and Sunday, there will be zero double-digit spreads for Week 1.
Highest Total
With the way the Chiefs lit up the scoreboard a year ago with Patrick Mahomes at the helm, it wouldn’t be surprising if Kansas City’s Week 1 matchup had the highest over/under on the board. That said, Sunday’s Chiefs-Jaguars game has a current total of 52, which is the second-highest over/under on the board. The top billing goes to the Texans and Saints matchup, which has a total of 53.5. Given the offensive firepower in that game, it’s not surprising that oddsmakers feel as though both teams could potentially reach the 60s.
Lowest Total
The Dolphins are in complete rebuild mode and expectations are incredibly low in South Beach this year. They’ll open their season at home against the Ravens as a 7-point underdog and the total for that game sits at just 37.5 points. Given today’s NFL, that’s a low total, but it makes sense. The Dolphins aren’t expected to score much this season and the Ravens will once again be run-heavy with Lamar Jackson under center. Plus, while Baltimore has a few new faces on defense, that unit is still expected to have a solid year.
Biggest Line Move
The aforementioned Ravens-Dolphins game featured a line move of three points, with Baltimore opening as a 4-point favorite before jumping to -7. That said, the biggest line move for Week 1 occurred in the Colts-Chargers game, for good reason. With Andrew Luck abruptly retiring last week, the Colts went from a 3-point road underdog to a 6.5-point dog Sunday at L.A. Even though Luck has been battling injuries all offseason, it goes to show you how much oddsmakers adjust their odds when it comes to quarterbacks.
Largest Home Dog
That would be the Dolphins at +7, although the Panthers (+3 vs. Rams), Jaguars +3.5 (vs. Chiefs) and Cardinals (+2.5 vs. Lions) are the other home dogs in Week 1. The 49ers-Bucs and Broncos-Raiders matchups are both set as pick’ems.
