Broncos 2013-14 Season Odds
DENVER, CO (The Spread) - Heading into the 2013-14 NFL regular season the Broncos are favored to win their division, their conference, and are co-favorites to win the entire league.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Broncos are 6/1 co-favorites with the 49ers to win the 2014 Super Bowl and are 2/1 favorites to win the AFC Conference title. They're also -300 favorites to win the AFC West Division and have an over/under of 11.5 for number of wins they'll have in 2013-14. They're currently -1000 to make the playoffs and +600 to miss the postseason.
The biggest move the Broncos made this offseason was signing receiver Wes Welker away from the Patriots. Not only does he make Denver's offense more explosive, but he also weakened New England's offense if Danny Amendola (whom the Pats signed right before losing Welker) can't stay healthy. Denver also signed cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, defensive tackle Terrance Knighton, and pass-rusher Shaun Phillips.
In the draft, the Broncos selected North Carolina defensive tackle Sylvester Williams in the first, Wisconsin running back Montee Ball in the second, and cornerback Kayvon Webster in the third. In the fifth they took Western Kentucky defensive end Qunterus Smith and Georgia receiver Tavarres King.
The Broncos are loaded offensively as Welker and Ball join a core that already featured quarterback Peyton Manning, receiver Demaryius Thomas, and an offensive line that's among the best in the NFL. The question is whether or not this team can survive with Von Miller for six games after the was suspended for violating the league's drug policy. After losing Elvis Dumervil to the Ravens via free agency, the Broncos may struggle to drum up a pass rush for the first six games. That said, Manning will certainly keep this team afloat and once Miller returns, Denver should fire on all cylinders on its way to a potential Super Bowl berth.
