Bears at Broncos Odds
The Denver Broncos will host a familiar face Sunday night as former quarterback Jay Cutler and his new team, the Chicago Bears, visit Invesco Field at 8:00PM ET.
The Broncos have had a rather tumultuous offseason. They fired long-time head coach Mike Shanahan and replaced him with former Patriots’ offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, who quickly got off on the wrong start with Cutler after attempting to trade for his former quarterback in New England, Matt Cassel.
After Cassel was traded to Kansas City, many people figured the McDaniels-Cutler spat would subside. But it didn’t and Cutler was eventually traded to the quarterback-starved Bears, who parted with their starting quarterback, Kyle Orton, and two first round draft picks.
Oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com have made the Broncos 2-point home favorites over Cutler and the Bears. The over/under for this game has been set at 39.5.
The last time these two teams met was in November of 2007, when the Bears edged out the Broncos 37-34 at Solider Field. Chicago also beat Denver 19-10 in November of 2003 at Mile High.
The odds favor Denver in this matchup, as the Broncos are 11-2 against the spread at home off a straight up loss and Chicago is just 2-12 ATS off a road win.
Even though the Bears expect big things in ’09 now that Cutler is under center, this team still has a ton of question marks. The defense probably won’t be as good as it has been over the years, most notably in the secondary. Even though Denver is expected to struggle defensively this year, we think Cutler will succumb to his emotions of being back in Denver for the first time since the trade and the Broncos will squeak out a win. Thus, we like the Broncos –2.
NFL Preseason Week 3: Bears at Broncos Odds & Over/Under Totals:
Chicago Bears +2 Over 39.5
Denver Broncos –2 Under 39.5
