Ravens 2013-14 Season Odds
BALTIMORE, MD (The Spread) - Despite winning the Super Bowl last season, the Ravens are long shots to repeat as champions in 2013-14.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Ravens are 28/1 long shots to win the 2014 Super Bowl and 12/1 to win the AFC Conference this season. They're also +225 to win the AFC North Division and have an over/under total of 8.5 for number of wins in 2013-14. Their odds of making the playoffs is -105 for and -125 against.
The biggest move the Ravens made this offseason was re-signing Joe Flacco to a massive new contract extension. they also signed defensive end Elvis Dumervil to a free agent contract and traded receiver Anquan Boldin to the 49ers in exchange for a late-round pick. Former Raider Michael Huff was also inked to a free agent deal.
The Ravens were busy on draft day, investing a first-round pick in Florida safety Matt Elam and a second-round pick in Kansas State linebacker Arthur Brown, who is projected to be Ray Lewis' air apparent. In the third round the team nabbed Missouri Southern State defensive tackle Brandon Williams and in the fourth they took Ohio State defensive end John Simon and Harvard fullback Kyle Juszcyk.
The AFC North is wide open this year and while the Ravens suffered losses on defense (Lewis, Ed Reed, Dannell Ellerbe, Paul Kruger) and offense (Boldin, Dennis Pitta), there's still talent on both sides of the ball. The key will be Flacco and whether or not he has enough weapons in the passing game after losing Boldin to free agency and Pitta to a season-ending injury. But with Ray Rice and Torrey Smith back, there's still plenty of explsoviness on that side of the ball to hold off a hard-charging Cincinnati Bengals team in the division.
