Texans impress early
Houston led 10-0 through one quarter last week at home versus Detroit before holding on for a 30-23 victory to improve to 1-1 in the preseason. Joe Webb III helped lead the offense as he was 14-of-25 through the air for 186 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Buddy Howell rushed 15 times for 84 yards and a score. DeAndre Carter had three catches for 40 yards, while Vyncint Smith caught a 31-yard TD. DeAndre Hopkins added two catches for 17 and a touchdown. Derrick Baity Jr. paced the defense as he registered six tackles (four solo) while also recording an interception. Ka’imi Fairbairn connected on 3-of-3 field goal attempts with a long of 50 yards while also making all three extra-point attempts.
Cowboys outlast Rams
Dallas picked up a 14-10 victory over Los Angeles in Honolulu last week to improve to 1-1 in the preseason. Cooper Rush led the aerial attack as he finished 10-for-16 for 83 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions. Tony Pollard rushed five times for 42 yards and a TD. Michael Gallup had one catch for 31 yards, while Devin Smith made three receptions for 24 and a score. Justin March-Lillard led the defense with nine tackles (six solo). Justin Phillips added seven tackles (four solo) along with an interception. Brett Maher missed his only field goal attempt, but was 2-of-2 on extra-point tries.
NFL Betting Trends
Houston
The Texans are 3-7-1 ATS in their last 11 road games. Houston is 1-3-1 ATS in its last five games overall.
Dallas
The Cowboys are 1-4 ATS in their last five games overall. The over is 6-2 in the last eight Dallas home games.
Prediction:
Both starting quarterbacks, Deshaun Watson and Dak Prescott, will certainly play their most reps of the preseason in this game. But I’d still bet heavily on which side’s backups you think will get the job done in crunch time. In a game that might come down to the wire, Fairbairn looked good last week and with the game on the line I’d trust him to make it. The Texans has some decent depth on their roster and the offense looked fluid last week. I’m taking the visiting team to get this win.
