Giants vs. Jets Preseason Pick
EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ (The Spread) – The Giants and Jets will square off tonight in a battle of in-state rivals when the two teams kick off from MetLife Stadium at 7:30PM ET.
Eli Manning started off the preseason with a solid outing in the Hall of Fame Game, completing 6-of-7 passes for 43 yards against the Bills. But he’s steadily gotten worse throughout exhibition play and is coming off a brutal 1-for-7 outing last week in which he only threw for six yards. New OC Ben McAdoo has been vanilla with his play-calling but the first-team passing offense has still be downright dismal in the preseason.
On other side the field, Geno Smith is coming off an encouraging start against the Bengals, completing 10-of-13 passes for 97 yards and an interception. He led the Jets to three scoring drives, although it’s fair to note that both of the touchdown drives came against Cincinnati’s backups. Still, the performance locked up a starting job for him as we get closer to Week 1 of the regular season. Michael Vick will be the backup in New York.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Jets are 1-point favorites over the Giants in tonight’s game, while the over/under total is currently sitting at 43.5 points. Despite some troubles on the offensive side of the ball for both teams, the Giants and Jets have combined to go 5-0 in preseason play thus far.
NFL Preseason Free Pick: We like the under in tonight’s game, mainly because of the way Manning has performed over the last few weeks. It’s clearly going to take some time before the first-string unit gels under McAdoo and the Jets are unlikely to move the ball at will tonight so the under is a safe, solid play for bettors.
