Vikings 2013-14 Season Odds
MINNEAPOLIS, MN (The Spread) – The Vikings were one of the surprise teams of 2012 but can they duplicate their success in 2013?
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Vikings are 40/1 to win the 2014 Super Bowl odds and 22/1 to win the NFC Conference next season. They’re also +600 to win the NFC North Division and have an over/under total of 7.5 for number of total wins in 2013-14.
The most noteworthy move the Vikings made this offseason was trading receiver Percy Harvin to the Seahawks in exchange for a first-round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. It was later discovered that Harvin, who had reportedly been a headache (no pun intended) in the past, would miss the entire 2013 season after having surgery on his hip. In order to help fill the void, Minnesota drafted Tennessee wideout Cordarrelle Patterson in the first round and signed free agent Greg Jennings, formerly of the Packers.
Patterson wasn’t the only first-round pick the Vikings had this year. They also selected Florida defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd with the 23rd overall pick and nabbed Florida State cornerback Xavier Rhodes with the 25th overall selection.
Can the Vikings make another playoff run? That depends on how good Adrian Peterson is after he nearly broke the single-season rushing record last year. He made up for a lot of Christian Ponder’s limitations in the passing game and if he can be as good this year as he was last season, there’s no reason to think Minnesota couldn’t again challenge for a wild card berth. That said, Ponder remains a huge question mark and the NFC North is stacked with individual talent ranging from Aaron Rodgers, Calvin Johnson and Brandon Marshall.
