Eagles 2013 Season Odds
PHILADELPHIA, PA (The Spread) - With new head coach Chip Kelly in command, the Philadelphia Eagles are an intriguing long shot entering the 2013 NFL season.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Eagles are 50/1 long shots to win the 2014 Super Bowl and 28/1 to win the NFC Conference this season. They're also +375 long shots to win the NFC East Division in 2014 and own an over/under total of 7.5 for number of wins they'll compile this season.
The Eagles hired Kelly on January 16 and will underdog a new direction after 14 years under the guidance of Andy Reid. They also hired vice president Tom Gamble on February 16, released cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha and allowed fellow defensive back Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie to walk in free agency.
In the draft, the Eagles selected Oklahoma offensive tackle Lane Johnson with the fourth overall pick and took Stanford tight end Zach Ertz with the third overall pick in round two. In the fourth, Philly surprised by selecting USC quarterback Matt Barkley with the first overall pick of the round, and in the fifth they took safety Earl Wolff.
While the Giants are the current favorites in the NFC East, oddsmakers and pundits don't really know what to make of the division heading into the new season. The Eagles theoretically have as much chance as anyone to win the East, but their secondary is a major question mark and losing receiver Jeremy Maclin to a season-ending injury in training camp was a massive blow. Without Maclin to take attention away from speedster DeSean Jackson, the Eagles could struggle offensively this season.
Of course, the other huge question mark is who will start at quarterback. Michael Vick seemingly has a lead over Nick Foles, but how long will he stay upright running the read option? The Eagles are an intriguing team, but there might be too many unanswered questions heading into the season.
