NFC West Preview: Seattle
Despite making the playoffs last season, The Seattle Seahawks had a very disappointing year in 2006. Their two top offensive players, Matt Hasselbeck and Shaun Alexander both missed significant time due to injuries leaving Coach Mike Holmgren frustrated and feeling helpless.
When he was on the field, Hasselbeck’s production was off considerably from 2005, with QB rating of only 76.0 and 15 interceptions in 13 games. Oddsmakers at Online Sports Book Bodog.com have odds posted on how many interceptions Hasselbeck will throw this year. Despite those skewed numbers you have to believe that Hasselbeck is still one of the best QB’s in the NFL and should rebound nicely after last years injuries and disappointments. He still has a few dependable targets in Deion Branch, D.J. Hackett and newly signed Marcus Pollard.
Running back Shaun Alexander started to show his wear and tear last year. It is doubtful that he will bounce back to his 2005 form in 2007 but he still has to be considered one of the top 10 running backs in the league when healthy. Bodog oddsmakers have Alexander listed to run 1650 yards with 16 touchdowns this season.
The Seahawks defensive line is top tier if they can remain healthy. However, two of their anchors Rocky Bernard and Marcus Tubbs each were dinged up much of last season.
Even new acquisition Patrick Kerney missed most of last season because of injuries in Atlanta.
The Line-backer unit is definitely the strength of the Seahawks defense behind Julian Peterson and Lofa Tatupu.
If Seattle can remain relatively healthy, they have the weapons capable of winning their fourth consecutive NFC West division title in 2007.
As a team, the Seahawks are listed at 6/1 odds of winning the division and the conference respectively. As far as Super Bowl 42 is concerned, the Seattle Seahawks are listed at a solid 20-1 to win Super Bowl XLII 02/03/08 in Arizona.
