The Redskins opened up preseason play with a 23-17 loss to the Atlanta Falcons last week. Even in the loss, Washington saw some good things as Kirk Cousins went 5-of-5 passing for 39 yards. The biggest issue for the Skins was they allowed a few deep balls to the Falcons that setup scores. Washington struggled a lot with passing defense last year and last week’s game didn’t help those concerns. The defense also didn’t record a sack in the game while allowing three.
The Jets opened up preseason play with a 17-13 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars last week. Despite the win, New York wasn’t impressing much on offense, being held to 228 passing yards and just 56 rushing yards. The defense found a way to make plays to lead to the win, picking up three sacks and one turnover.

The Jets need to establish a run game, so there could be more of a focus on that in this game. I am sure they will look to take a few shots down field as well, as the Redskins were vulnerable to that last week. With the competitive battle at the backup QB position, look for the Jets to have a strong effort tonight. Washington doesn’t have the defensive depth to create a lot of problems in this game, so the Jets should be able to keep things close.
