Kansas City Chiefs 2011 Season Odds
(The Spread) – If the odds are any indication of whether or not oddsmakers feel the Chiefs will repeat as AFC West champs, it doesn’t look good for KC in 2011.
Oddsmakers have made the Chiefs 40/1 long shots to win the 2012 Super Bowl and 20/1 to win the AFC. The Chargers are –240 money line favorites to win the AFC West, while KC is +425 and Oakland is +550, indicating that oddsmakers don’t believe the Chiefs have what it takes to repeat as division champs.
The Chiefs made several quality moves this offseason, including signing free agents Steve Breaston (Cardinals), Jared Gaither (Ravens), Kelly Gregg (Ravens) and Le’Ron McClain (Ravens). They also re-signed cornerback Brandon Carr, center Casey Wiegmann and tight end Leonard Pope (among others).

In the draft, the Chiefs gave quarterback Matt Cassel another weapon in former PITT reciver Jon Baldwin and more protecting in Florida State guard Rodney Hudson. In the third round, KC addressed its defense with the selection of former Miami end Allen Bailey and in the fourth the Chiefs drafted Colorado corner Jalil Brown.
The general consensus is that if the Chargers have their act together, they should take the AFC West this year. And considering how tough the rest of the conference is, it’ll be tough for the Chiefs to win the Wild Card and make a repeat appearance in the playoffs. It also stands to reason that Cassel will struggle without Charlie Weis calling the plays this year, although head coach Todd Haley certainly has the ability to run an explosive offense seeing as how he was the OC in Arizona when the Cardinals went to the Super Bowl a few years back.
