Public Betting Trends
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetNow.eu, the Cowboys are 3-point favorites to beat the Bengals. The total, meanwhile, sits at 42 points. As of this writing, 61% of the public betting tickets are on the Cowboys to cover the point spread.
Cincinnati Bengals
A.J. Green said he is “not going anywhere any time soon.” Green turned 30 in July and is now six years older than any other receiver on the team, but he is not feeling his age. “I ain’t an old man,” Green said. “I’ve always got juice. I’ve had it for a long time.” Green had one his least efficient seasons last year, and he still managed a 75/1,078/8 line. In what should be an improved offense, he has a shot to better those numbers this season. He is a great pick at the end of the second round.
Dallas Cowboys
Dak Prescott said Tavon Austin is “not just a gadget” player. “I didn’t know he was as good of a receiver as he was and could run routes as well as he does, and catch the ball every single time,” Prescott said. “He’s a guy you can put out there, inside, outside and trust he’s going to get open.” The Cowboys have steadily said they plan to use Austin as a receiver, and that is primarily how he was deployed in the preseason opener. He did play behind Allen Hurns, Michael Gallup, and Terrance Williams in that contest, however, and he will likely be behind Cole Beasley once the slot receiver returns from injury. Still, he does carry some deep sleeper appeal on a wide-open depth chart.
NFL Betting Trends
Cincinnati
The Bengals are 6-2 against the spread in their last eight games dating back to last season.
Dallas
The Cowboys are 2-5 against the number in their last seven home games.
Prediction
These two teams piled up the points in their preseason opener and with the total jumping from 37.5 to 42, I like the over to hit tonight. Plus, while the Cowboys are young and perhaps show some long-term promise, neither defense is expected to be great from an efficiency standpoint.
