Chargers 2013-14 Season Odds
SAN DIEGO, CA (The Spread) - Are the San Diego Chargers in store for another down year in the AFC West?
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Chargers are 50/1 long shots to win the 2014 Super Bowl and 20/1 to win the AFC Conference title next season. They're also +600 to win the AFC West Division in 2014 and have an over/under total of 7.5 for number of wins this season.
The Chargers were quiet in free agency this year although they did add projected starters King Dunlap and Dwight Freeney, who is expected to stand up in the team's 3-4 defense. Other than that, the biggest offseason moves for San Diego is the hiring of new head coach Mike McCoy, the former offensive coordinator for the Broncos.
In the draft the Chargers selected former Alabama offensive tackle D.J. Fluker in round one and Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o in round two. They also nabbed Cal receiver Keenan Allen in the third round and in the fifth they took Allen's former Golden Bears teammate, cornerback Steve Williams.
The biggest weakness for the Bolts heading into the season is their offensive line. Dunlap has been inconsistent throughout his career and Fluker is a rookie. The receiving corps also keeps taking hits in the injury department, where Danario Alexander has already been lost for the year and Malcom Floyd and Eddie Royal have already suffered injuries. So with no protection and no weapons in the passing game, how good do you think Philip Rivers will be?
