The Jacksonville Jaguars don’t have far to travel for their preseason opener of 2009, as they’ll take on the Miami Dolphins Monday night at 7:30PM.
The 2008 NFL season was a bit of a disaster for the Jaguars, whom many pundits thought was a legitimate Super Bowl contender at the start of the year. Injuries ravished any otherwise competitive team, especially along the offensive line.
Jacksonville addressed that need this offseason when they selected offensive linemen with their top two picks in April’s draft. Both Eugene Monroe (the 8th overall pick) and Eben Britton (the 39th overall pick) are expected to contribute as rookies this season.
The Dolphins had a completely different ’08 experience, as they seemingly came from nowhere to win the AFC East crown. Thanks to the brilliant football mind of new GM Bill Parcells, Miami made a surprising trip to the playoffs and hope this year to take an even bigger step towards their goal of winning the Super Bowl.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL have made the Jaguars 3-point underdogs in Monday night’s game. The over/under total for this game has also been set at 33.
The trends favor Jacksonville and the under in this contest, as the Jags are 14-4 against the spread away on grass, and Miami is 6-1 under in August.
