Jets 2013-14 NFL Season Odds
EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ (The Spread) - The New York Jets are facing long odds to win the 2014 Super Bowl, mainly because of their quarterback situation heading into the new season.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Jets are 100/1 long shots to win the 2014 Super Bowl and 40/1 to win the AFC Conference this season. They're also +1400 to win the AFC East Division and their over/under total is currently sitting at 6.5 for number of wins in 2013-14.
The Jets had two selections in the first-round of the 2013 NFL Draft and selected Alabama cornerback Dee Milliner at 9th overall and Missouri defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson at 13th overall. In the second round, they took West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith, who is currently battling with incumbent Mark Sanchez for the team's starting quarterback job this season.
It would appear as though both Sanchez and head coach Rex Ryan are on borrowed time right now in New York. The wheels have come off since the Jets went to back-to-back AFC title games in 2009 and 2010, largely because of Sanchez's poor performances and the fact that the team's running game and defense has deteriorated. And while the Jets added running back Chris Ivory this offseason and drafted receiver Stephen Hill last year, this roster is largely devoid of talent.
Seeing as how the Patriots and upstart Dolphins are in the same division, it would be a shock if the Jets competed for a conference or Super Bowl title in 2013.
