Lions vs. Raiders Free Pick
OAKLAND, CA (ATS CONSULTANTS) – The Oakland Raiders welcome the Detroit Lions to town tonight for a preseason game at 10PM ET. Will Oakland defend its home turf?
According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, the Raiders are 3-point favorites at home against the Lions tonight, while the over/under total is listed at 40 points.
LINE MOVEMENT: The Nationals opened as a -155 to favorite. The money line climbed to a peak of -160 before falling back to -150. The over/under total hasn’t changed since opening at 7 runs. Detroit defeated Cleveland, 13-12, covering a 2.5-point spread in week 1 of the preseason. Oakland suffered a 10-6 loss at Minnesota, failing to cover the -1-point spread as well.
The Lions didn’t have much of an offensive presence in its preseason opener, only amassing 296 yards. However, the defense held Cleveland to just 282 yards and kept the Browns out of the end zone. The Detroit starters saw very limited action in the game. Matthew Stafford only played in the opening series, going 2 of 4 passing for 18 yards. Calvin Johnson didn’t play at all, but could see some time tonight, which could open up the offense.
Oakland also had similar offensive problems last week, amassing just 268 yards of offense. Like the Lions, the Raiders’ defense was dominant, holding Minnesota to 236 yards while picking up six sacks. Matt Schaub wasn’t impressive in his debut with the Raiders, going 3 of 7 passing for 21 yards. Rookie Derek Carr had a nice showing, going 10 of 16 for 74 yards.
NFL Preseason Free Pick: Go with the Raiders at home. Oakland, despite some struggles with the first team offense, had some good numbers in the passing game from the likes of Carr and Matt McGloin. The Lions come in with a weak secondary in its starting unit, and the backups aren’t any stronger. Look for the Raiders to find a groove with the starters out. The Detroit offense, on the other hand, struggled behind second-string quarterback Dan Orlovsky, which should lead to the Oakland defense have a field day.
