Vikings at Colts Preview
Two playoff teams from a year ago square off at Lucas Oil Stadium on Friday night when Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts host the Minnesota Vikings.
The Vikings had a rather interesting summer as they thought legend quarterback Brett Favre was going to come out of retirement (again) to play in Minnesota for them this year, but he instead decided that his arm couldn’t hold up to the rigors of a full NFL season.
Now the Vikes hope that either Sage Rosenfels or former second round pick Tarvaris Jackson will emerge as the clear-cut starter in preseason. Whoever winds up taking the starting snaps under center this season for Minnesota, they’ll be aided by dynamic running back Adrian Peterson, a terrific offensive line and a couple of solid playmakers in the passing game.
As usual, the Colts didn’t make much noise this offseason. They weren’t major players in free agency, instead focusing on re-signing their own players as cornerback Kelvin Hayden, center Jeff Saturday and linebackers Freddy Keiaho and Tyjuan Hagler received new deals.
Of course, Indy will once again be led by future Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning and an explosive offense. Although Manning won’t have long-time receiver Marvin Harrison at his disposal this season (the team cut him in the offseason), he will have the explosive Reggie Wayne and emerging Anthony Gonzalez.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SPORTSBETTING.com have made the road Vikings 1.5-point favorites entering Friday’s game. The over/under for this contest has also been set at 35, which is somewhat high for a preseason game.
The trends favor Minnesota in this contest, as the Vikes are 3-0 against the spread vs. the AFC. Indianapolis is 4-8 ATS on Fridays.
Game time for this matchup between the Vikings and Colts is set for 7:30PM ET.
