Browns at Packers Odds

Two teams looking to rebound from a disappointing 2008-09 season will face off in their preseason opener Saturday as the Green Bay Packers host the Cleveland Browns from Lambeau Field at 8PM ET.

The Cleveland Browns have a new coaching staff but a similar roster to last season, a year in which many projected the Browns to make the playoffs. Eric Mangini is now the head coach of the Browns and his biggest question will be at quarterback, where Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson will compete for the starting job throughout the preseason. The duo will have less targets to work with this season as Kellen Winslow Jr. was traded to Tampa Bay and receiver Donte’ Stallworth was suspended for 2009-10 season after being charged with a DUI manslaughter during the offseason. Top receiver Braylon Edwards was also rumored to be heading out of Cleveland during the NFL draft, and is currently nursing a foot injury suffered during practice.

The Packers were riddled with injuries last season, especially on defense that led Green Bay to a losing season. Looking to address the defensive concerns, Green Bay used two first round draft picks on defense, taking defensive tackle B.J. Raji and linebacker Clay Matthews. Raji has yet to sign but should help the Packers by the start of the season. Aaron Rodgers is in his second season as starting quarterback and his top target, Greg Jennings has a new four-year extension to work with.

Oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com have made the Packers 3-point favorites heading into Saturday’s game. The over/under total has also been set at 35.

Cleveland is 1-4 against the spread in non-conference games.

Green Bay is 24-11 with the over as the favorite.

Game time is set for 8PM ET from Lambeau Field with clear skies in the forecast for kickoff. Both teams are expected to play all of their starters in the beginning, but the duration of their play is not likely to be anything past one quarter.
