Patriots' 2014 Win Total Odds
LAS VEGAS, NV (The Spread) - Will the New England Patriots win another 10-plus games for the 12th consecutive time?
This offseason the Patriots made a splash with free agent signing Darrelle Revis, who was released by the Buccaneers after spending just one year in Tampa Bay. The Pats also added Brandon Browner, who should start opposite Revis once his four-game suspension for PED use is through. The team also added roster depth in receiver Brandon LaFell, linebacker Josh Hull, defensive end Will Smith and safety Patrick Chung.
Among the Patriots' losses were running back LeGarrette Blount (Steelers), tight end Matthew Mulligan (Bears), linebackers Brandon Spikes (Bills) and Dane Fletcher (Bucs), and cornerback Aqib Talib (Broncos). Talib was the biggest loss, although the additions of Revis and Browner certainly lessened the blow in the secondary.
In the draft the Patriots took Florida defensive tackle Dominique Easley with their first pick at No. 29, while quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo of Eastern Illinois was their second-round pick. Bryan Stork of Florida State, James White of Wisconsin and Cameron Fleming of Stanford were the team's fourth-round selections.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, New England's over/under for wins in 2014 is 10.5. As previously noted, the Patriots have won at least 10 games every year since 2003 and at least 11 games in 11 of those 12 years. Even though Tom Brady is aging, it's hard to bet the under with this Bill Belichick-led squad. The Pats re-tooled this offseason and should rack up anywhere from 10 to 13 wins again this season.
