49ers Season Odds
The San Francisco 49ers always seem to be on the cusp of turning things around and making a playoff run. Is 2009 the year the Niners put it together and make a playoff appearance?
As they have been the past couple years, the 49ers were active in free agency. They re-signed linebacker Takeo Spikes and signed free agents Jamel White, Dre’ Bly Demetric Evans and Brandon Jones.
The 49ers couldn’t believe that the prospect they had at the top of their draft board was still available to them at pick No. 10. But he was, and San Fran snatched him up. That “him” is dynamic Texas Tech wideout Michael Crabtree, who was highly regarded as one of the best prospects in the entire draft and should dramatically upgrade the Niners’ receiver corps.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL have established the 49ers’ odds to win Super Bowl XLIV at 35/1. They’ve also given San Francisco 18/1 odds to win the NFC and 3/1 odds to win the NFC West.
There’s a buzz surrounding this team entering the ’09 season. They’ve got a ton of young talent on both sides of the ball, especially on defense where Patrick Willis, Manny Lawson and Nate Clements will all be counted on to have big years. Offensively, they need either Shaun Hill or Alex Smith to step up and take the reigns at quarterback. If not, Frank Gore can’t do it on his own and this team won’t be able to max out its potential. Granted, Mike Singletary is going to get as much out of his team as possible, which is why San Fran is a potential sleeper this season. If Hill or Smith can step up and be productive, the Niners could be dangerous and their division isn’t exactly stacked, although the defending NFC Champion Cardinals would certainly disagree with that.
