Giants Season Odds

The New York Giants are only two years removed from a Super Bowl victory and they hope to rekindle the magic they had in the 2007 NFL season.

The G-Men made a splash in the offseason, first re-signing running back Brandon Jacobs to a new deal and then adding free agents Chris Canty, Michael Boley, C.C. Brown and Rocky Bernard to their already stacked defense. Boley, however, will likely miss all of the preseason after undergoing surgery to repair a torn labrum in his hip.

After releasing troubled wide receiver Plaxico Burress in the offseason, the Giants decided to address their need at wideout by selecting North Carolina’s Hakeem Nicks in the first round of the draft. New York also did well in the second, adding pass-rushing linebacker Clint Sintim and offensive tackle Will Beatty.

Oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL have established the Giants’ odds to win Super Bowl XLIV at 10/1. They’ve also given New York 5/1 odds to win the NFC and 1.5/1 odds to win the NFC East.

The Giants will once again be competitive this season, but there are some question marks that surround them heading into 2009. Eli Manning and Brandon Jacobs will once again be the keys to the offense’s success, but does Manning have enough weapons in the passing game? New York did well without Burress at the end of the ’08 season, but eventually not having his deep threat ability was one of the things that doomed the Giants in the end. The defense will once again be solid and the additions they made in the offseason were outstanding, but Bill Sheridan replaces Steve Spagnolo as defensive coordinator so there will be an adjustment for the unit on a whole. All and all, the Giants are going to be tough to beat again this season, but questions remain. Plus, they play in the ultra-competitive NFC East and will have to face the likes of the Eagles, Cowboys and Redskins twice a year.
