Mike Evans’ OROY Award Odds
TAMPA, FL (The Spread) – Will Buccaneers receiver Mike Evans take home this year’s NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year? The odds are in his favor.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Mike Evans is a 4/1 co-favorite to win the 2014 Offensive Rookie of the Year for the 2014 NFL season. Bills’ receiver Sammy Watkins has those same 4/1 odds, while Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel is 6/1 and Saints receiver Brandin Cooks is 10/1. Bishop Sankey of the Titans and Teddy Bridgewater of the Vikings are both 12/1, respectively.
The Buccaneers selected Evans with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. The 6-foot-4, 231-pound product out of Texas A&M caught 151 passes for 2,499 yards and 17 touchdowns across two seasons with the Aggies. He has already drawn comparisons to current teammate Vincent Jackson based on his height, ability to high-point passes and run-blocking ability.
The Bucs also added tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins in the draft and selected running back Charles Sims in the middle round. While their offensive line remains a question mark, the combination of Jackson, Evans, Seferian-Jenkins, Sims and Doug Martin gives the Bucs a potent offense. Quarterback Josh McCown is also coming off a solid season as a backup in Chicago and will love throwing to his new twin towers in Jackson and Evans.
So, will Evans win the 2014 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year? With Mike Williams (photo) now in Buffalo after being traded by Tampa Bay, Evans should receive an opportunity to start right away, which is half the battle when you’re talking about ROY candidates. With Jackson on the other side drawing the oppositions’ attention, Evans should see plenty of one-on-one opportunities to make plays, too. Thus, Evans is worth a flier at 4/1 odds.
