Will Clowney go first overall?
LAS VEGAS, NV (The Spread) – Will South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney be drafted first overall in Thursday night’s NFL draft? The odds suggest that he will.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the odds that Clowney will be drafted first overall are 1/5. The odds against him being the top overall selection is +3/1, so the odds are in Clowney’s favor that he’ll be taken first come Thursday night.
Granted, that doesn’t mean that the Texans will take Clowney, just that he’ll go first overall. Houston currently owns the top selection in this year’s draft but there have been rumors that have circulated over the last few weeks that a team could trade up to the top spot. The Falcons, who hold the No. 6 overall selection and who desperately need pass rushers, have been the two most mentioned to trade up to the top spot for Clowney.
Meanwhile, how many defensive players will be drafted overall in the first round? The over/under set by oddsmakers is currently sitting at 17 for the number of defensive players taken in the first 32 picks, and 15 for the number of offensive players that will be drafted in Round 1.
The first round of the 2014 NFL Draft will take place on Thursday starting at 8:00PM ET from Radio City Music Hall in New York.
