Winston favored to go No. 1 in draft
CHICAGO, IL (The Spread) – Will Jameis Winston be the No. 1 pick in Thursday night’s NFL draft? If the odds are any indication, he will be the top player selected.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Winston is the current favorite at 1/15 to be the No. 1 selection in the 2015 NFL Draft. Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota is 15/2 to be the top pick, while “Any Other Player” has odds of 9/1.
It’s been assumed for months that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will select Winston with the top pick in this year’s draft. They released veteran Josh McCown back in March and while Mike Glennon does have some starting experience in the NFL, it’s highly unlikely that Lovie Smith views Glennon as his long-term starter (especially considering Glennon was on the trade market this past year).
Winston threw for 3,907 yards with 25 touchdowns and 18 interceptions while leading Florida State to the playoffs in 2014. He had better numbers as a freshman when he threw for 4,057 yards with 40 touchdowns and just 10 picks in 2013. He led the Seminoles to a national championship that season.
