49ers’ Smith finds trouble again
LOS ANGELES, CA (The Spread) – San Francisco 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith is once again in trouble, this time causing an incident at Los Angeles Airport (LAX).
According to a report by TMZ.com, Smith was detained at LAX on Sunday after allegedly yelling “bomb” in the airport terminal. He was reportedly selected for a random screening at the security gate, at which point in he became “belligerent and uncooperative.” He also made “a comment indicating that he was in possession of a bomb before proceeding to the gate area.”
Smith was released from jail late Sunday on $20,000 bond and police told reports that the linebacker “may have been drinking” prior to the incident. The alcohol use was not a factor in the arrest but it’s noteworthy considering that Smith missed five games in 2013 while undergoing substance abuse treatment. The Niners are currently trying to decide whether or not to pick up Smith’s 2015 Club Option, which must be made by May 3.
Despite missing five games, Smith still recorded 8.5 sacks in eight starts. The year before he finished with 19.5 sacks in helping the 49ers make it to the Super Bowl, and racked up 14 sacks as a rookie in 2011.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the 49ers are 15/2 to win the 2015 Super Bowl, which place them just behind the Seahawks, who are 6/1. The Niners are also 4/1 to win the NFC Conference.
