Bucs’ front office down on Winston?
TAMPA, FL (The Spread) – Could the owners of the Buccaneers halt the team from selecting Jameis Winston with the No. 1 overall pick in this month’s draft?
Citing a league source that is reportedly familiar with the “inner workings” of the Bucs, Yahoo’s Charles Robinson says that Tampa Bay co-owner Darcie Glazer Kassewitz “has raised some internal questions” about the community relations impact of drafting Winston.
Robinson goes as far to say that even though coach Lovie Smith and GM Jason Licht are solid on the Florida State quarterback, they “won’t have final say.” Kassewitz is the daughter of late Bucs owner Malcolm Glazer and apparently has a voice in the Bucs’ front office.
Winston has been the consensus No. 1pick for roughly a month, at least among draftniks and pundits. The Bucs released Josh McCown earlier this offseason so they’re in desperate need of a quarterback. Mike Glennon is the only quarterback with any experience currently on the roster.
