49ers interested in D-Jax?
SAN FRANCISCO, CA (The Spread) – The 49ers might be looking to beef up their receiving corps with a potential trade soon.
According to ProFootballTalk.com, the Niners are “very interested” in receiver DeSean Jackson, whom the Eagles have decided to trade or release. San Francisco GM Trent Baalke has denied these claims but the Niners have been actively pursuing receiver options so the Jackson rumors make sense. Plus, Jackson played at Cal, so there are local ties as well.
Earlier this month the Niners were tied to free agents Golden Tate, Julian Edelman and Hakeem Nicks. Tate wound up signing with the Lions, while Nicks agreed to terms with the Colts and Edelman returned to the Patriots with a new deal. San Francisco did re-sign veteran Anquan Boldin, but they could use an injection of speed to complement Michael Crabtree, and Jackson would fit the bill in that regard.
Now, what the Eagles’ asking price is for Jackson is unknown and interested teams like the 49ers may just wait until Philadelphia releases him in the upcoming weeks. Jackson is set to make $10.5 million in 2014,$9.75 million in 2015, and $9.75 million in 2016 before hitting the open market in 2017. That price tag has already made it difficult for the Eagles to trade Jackson, whom they reportedly decided to deal “well over a month ago” according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Eagles are 18/1 favorites to win the 2015 Super Bowl and 10/1 to win the 2015 NFC Conference. The Seahawks, meanwhile, are 6/1 to win this season’s Super Bowl.
