Patrick Willis retiring
SAN FRANCISCO, CA (TheSpread) – The San Francisco 49ers are losing one of their all-time great defensive leaders, as Patrick Willis has elected to retire after eight seasons in the NFL.
Willis has been battling injuries over the second half of his career, most notably a toe injury that forced him to miss the majority of the 2014 season. However, following surgery this season, Willis indicated that he was eager to return and have an impactful season. Instead, he is now retiring.
According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, the San Francisco 49ers are currently listed with 30/1 odds to win Super Bowl 50 next season. They have the New England Patriots favored at 13/2 while the Green Bay Packers have 7/1 odds.
Willis appeared in six games last season, racking up 34 tackles before getting injured. He has amassed over 100 tackles in six of his eight seasons, including a career-best 174 tackles in his rookie year of 2007. Willis also had 20.5 sacks and eight interceptions in his career with the 49ers.
